Autumn in California's Sierra Nevada can begin one lovely morning and be over in the blink of an eye, but there is a second chance at fall color on the western side of the state, in Napa Valley's wine country.

In mid-November we zigzagged between Highway 29 and Silvarado Trail, from Napa to Calistoga, and were treated to gold and orange, red and green, a water fountain and intriguing sculpture. The wine country is more than just wine.
